Okay,
The "global perspective" aspect of the Teaching in a Global Community
course is all about getting new VT teachers or teachers-to-be out of
the insular mindset that is public school in a tiny, nearly all white
state, and opening up horizons to include other approaches to working
with children (RE) and other cultures (Italy) and how
history of a region can shape teaching philosophy (RE developed in Italy
after WWII) and combine that all back into the little VT classroom. How can VT
teachers use other models of education to enhance the structure already
present in the VT public classroom? It is really all about getting
involved in policy making, and understanding their role as a community
leader in public education reform, getting involved with local
politicians to be an advocate for children in the community.
I sense that the Essential Objectives for the Teaching in the Global Community course
are giving you fits. I can tell you that my own classes have developed
over time to be in line with the objectives, and this course will too.
